In partnership with the EU Office in Kosovo / EU Special Representative, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Municipality of Peja, the Municipality of Gjakova, Peja Brewery, the Kosovo Financing Agency AFK, and the railway companies Infrakos Sh.A. and Trainkos Sh.A., the NGO for the Promotion and Management of Heritage PHM-West has announced the Heritage Train 2015, an opportunity to enjoy the values of local culture, craftsmen, and traditional food of the Peja region. This year visitors also have the opportunity to enjoy natural beauty through attractive sports such as Via Ferrata and Paragliding.
This train started running on 10 and 11 October 2015 from Prishtina to Peja, Deçan and Gjakova as part of the European Heritage Days celebration in Kosovo. On Saturday (10.10.2015) the program included a train ride on the Prishtina – Peja route, after which passengers continued from the Peja train station to the "Porta West" Tourist Information Center. There, visitors became acquainted with craft works and souvenirs made by citizens of the Dukagjini region, as well as traditional food. Participants then visited the Patriarchate of Peja to learn about its long history, continuing afterwards to the Ethnological Museum. Later they also visited the mosque in the center of Peja, "Çarshia Mosque", to meet again at "Haxhi Zeka" Square and continue their journey to the source of the White Drin and the waterfall at Radac.
This trip ended in the evening, with participants appearing tired from the places visited, while the train ride from the Peja station back to Prishtina was a relaxing rest for them.
On Sunday (11.10.2015) visitors traveled by train on the Prishtina – Klinë route, from where they continued by bus to the city of Gjakova, continuing with visits to the Great Bazaar and the Tourism Office in Gjakova. The tour continued with visits to the Hadum Mosque and the Ethnological Museum. The Orthodox church was also visited, and from there visitors traveled by bus towards Deçan to continue with the agenda whose destination was the Deçan Monastery. This was the last place to be visited before the bus set off towards Peja, namely the Peja train station, from where visitors would return to Prishtina by train.
Throughout the trip, visitors showed interest in learning about the company Kosovo Railways – Trainkos Sh.A., the train schedules, etc.
All interested parties are informed that this heritage-promotion train will also run on 17, 18 and 24, 25 October 2015, departing from Prishtina at 09:00. This year the €3 ticket will be your contribution to promoting heritage values.
